Right to be seen offers practical assistance, support and activities to possible victims of human trafficking. This can be men or women of all ages who have been exploited and/or forced in to prostitution, labor or other services.
Right to be seen look in to the situation of possible victims and provides information and guidance regarding their legal rights possibilities for assistance. We work alongside other professional services in order to ensure that these rights are upheld during their time in Norway.
Our volunteers run a range of activities for our participants. Activities aim to strengthen the social networks of our participants and aid their education. Activities include study help, group activities and one to one connections.
This is what we do at the Oslo Red Cross
What is human trafficking?
What is human trafficking and what legal rights do possible victims of human trafficking have in Norway?
Paragraph 257 of the Norwegian penal code defines human trafficking as “Any person who by force, threats, abuse of another person’s vulnerability or other improper conduct exploits another person for the purpose of prostitution or other sexual purposes, forced labor or forced services, including begging, military service in a foreign country, or removal of any of the said person’s organs.
People who are identified as possible victims of human trafficking may have the following legal rights in Norway:
- Free legal representation
- A six-month reflection period in Norway which includes a work and residence permit
- Safe and adapted accommodation
- Access to necessary health care and medical assistance
- Covered living expenses
- Social activities
- Voluntary assistance for a safe return and relocation to their country of origin
- Information on possible assistance offered in other relevant countries
Individual follow-up
Right to be seen offers individual assistance to possible victims of human trafficking regarding their case and situation here in Norway.
We provide information regarding victims' legal rights and possibilities for assistance, perform a need- and risk assessment, serve as a connection towards governmental agencies and other relevant organizations and offer psychosocial support in order to ensure the stabilization and safeguarding of the individual.
Our trainee program
In cooperation with Nordic Choice Hotels, Right to be seen offers work experience opportunities to our participants. The trainee program gives participants the chance to obtain practical experience from a Norwegian workplace, and strengthens the possibility of getting a regular job in the future. The trainee program lasts 3 months; during this time the participants receive support and supervision by both the Red Cross and a mentor in the workplace.
We are always looking for new partners for our trainee program. If this could be interesting for your business please get in touch:
