The European migration crisis and the ongoing war in eastern Ukraine dominated the humanitarian landscape in Europe.

In 2015 around one million people migrated to Europe. Subsequent political agreements stemmed the flow of people. However, conflict and financial crisis continue to be a push factor for many migrants. Conflict in the Donbas region of Ukraine has killed over 13,000 people and an estimated 1.5 million people have been displaced.

NorCross supports five main activities in the Europe region: ICRC’s response in Ukraine, the Russian Red Cross, twinning activities; a Federation fundraising initiative and the Federation appeal in support of migrants in Europe.

School meals for healthy child development.  

Over 1,800 children in North Western Russia received daily meals as part of the NorCross supported Child Welfare Programme. In a country where 1 in 8 people live below the poverty line regular hot meals are key to children’s cognitive and nutritional health.
